Aunt B and Sean Braisted have already posted this but what the heck, I might as well pile on. It’s pretty funny:
In related news:
• In response to a Georgia bill further limiting women’s access to abortion, Georgia Democrats propose a state ban on vasectomies. And I like their reasoning:
“It is patently unfair that men can avoid unwanted fatherhood by presuming that their judgment over such matters is more valid than the judgment of the General Assembly, while women’s ability to decide is constantly up for debate throughout the United States.”
• House Democrats objected to the name Republicans gave their bill banning the non-existent practice of selective abortions based on race or gender. Those Republicans, always banning shit that doesn’t exist! Instead of the “Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass Prenatal Non-discrimination Act of 2011,” Democrats had their own suggestions (warning: link is to right-wing CNS News): the “Ronald Reagan Impose Your Beliefs on a Woman’s Womb Act” or the “Tea Party Determines What Rights a Woman Has Act.”
Republicans have made a mockery of our politics, thanks to their ridiculous war on women’s reproductive rights. And they call us the party of the nanny state? They’re the ones trying to control what everyone else is doing! Here’s a thought: instead of mock legislation designed to make a point, how about we pass a law saying no one can tell a another person what they can do with their own body? I know, it will never happen. I’m such a dreamer.
A state ban on vasectomies would be equivalent to a ban on tubal ligations not abortions.
Bullshit. Georgia is saying men can have full control over their reproductive rights but women can’t. A vasectomy ban levels the playing field. And don’t pretend the anti-choice crowd isn’t also anti birth control. We’ve just been through a ream of headlines showing otherwise.
SB – sorry, but the equivalent of a vasectomy is having your tubes tied. A vascetomy is cutting of some tubes in your body to block the flow of semen and a tubal ligation is cutting some tubes in your body to block the flow of an egg. Each of these procedures involves only your own body.
Abortion is the killing of an unborn person. It involves the destruction of a body that is not yours. Just check the DNA of the aborted person and see if it matches the mother 100% or not.
Yes Jim. But I’m talking about the LARGER ISSUE AT PLAY HERE.
Jesus. As usual, your narrow little mind is incapable of grasping the bigger point and instead clings to the tiny fragment of literalism.
Which pretty much displays the difference between conservatives and liberals in general. One group focuses on the tiny minutiae, the other group looks at the big picture. The issue is WOMEN CONTROLLING THEIR OWN BODIES.
Furthermore, there is not consensus that abortion is killing an unborn person. A blastocyst is not a person. A zygote is not a person. The government has not ruled on when personhood begins (yet) … but when it does, I guarantee you that will have ramifications for what kinds of birth control women can access. Which makes your point moot.
Now fuck off.
“Fourteen million African-American children have been aborted in this country since Roe versus Wade, 14 million, which far outpaces the death caused even in the days of slavery,” said Rep. Franks. “And I would suggest to you that if we are looking for an abomination, there it is.” “Therefore as soon as the Confederacy is restored I promise my constituents the death rate of captive labor will increase.”
I don’t think they’ve really thought through this whole “race-based abortion” argument. Do they think black women are just going and getting abortions over and over hoping they will finally have a white baby instead of a black one? Also, too, if abortion is actually a form of genocide aimed at the black race, it’s odd that it always seems to be a white guy making the argument.
No, it’s even worse than that. They’re saying black women are too stupid to think for themselves and have been duped into having abortions because evul white libruls are secret racists who want to eradicate blacks, and abortion is the way they’ll do it. Ya know, cuz conservatives have done such a great job of showing black people the love through the years.
It’s rooted in the idea that long, long ago, “reasonable” people actually thought eugenics was a good thing, people like Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. Eugenics was a popular, mainstream viewpoint back in the ‘teens and 1920s, with proponents including J.P. Morgan, E.B. Scripps, John Kellogg, James G. Hanes and some other prominent Americans. No one launches boycotts against banks, newspapers, hosiery or cereal but they sure like to promote the misinformed idea that Planned Parenthood is part of some evil Nazi plot today. Eugenics is definitely a shameful part of our history and led to atrocities such as forced sterilization in North Carolina but it’s not like it was invented by liberals.
**shrug** Martin Luther was vicious anti-Semite. That doesn’t mean the Protestant reformation was a bad idea.
Planned Parenthood, as it currently exists, is either an organization that does meritorious work, or it isn’t. That should be the beginning and end of the argument.
But let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that evil eugenicists are setting up abortion clinics in black neighborhoods in the hopes that black people will kill their babies. Even in that case, what is “fetal non-discrimination” supposed to mean? The women aren’t getting abortions because their baby is black, they’re getting abortions because they want abortions.
At least when they talk about gender-based abortion, I understand what they’re talking about. But in terms of race, the baby is always going to be the same race as mom, so how could a woman possibly get an abortion based on race?
It’s just a way of demonizing the procedure. It’s the same as the “coercion signage” bill they passed in Tennessee last year. Every abortion provider must post a sign saying it’s illegal to coerce a woman into having an abortion (ironic, considering the other coercion Republicans love to put in front of women on things like ultrasound, waiting periods, etc.) Another not-so-subtle means of reinforcing the message that what you’re doing is WRONG and EVIL and BAD and SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME.
“Abortion is the killing of an unborn person”-Jim
“See the really hardcore people will tell you life begins at fertilization. Fertilization, when the sperm fertilizes the egg…But even after the egg is fertilized, it’s still six or seven days before it reaches the uterus and pregnancy begins, and not every egg makes it that far. Eighty percent of a woman’s fertilized eggs are rinsed and flushed out of her body once a month during those delightful few days she has. They wind up on sanitary napkins, and yet they are fertilized eggs. So basically what these anti-abortion people are telling us is that any woman who’s had more than more than one period is a serial killer!”

Jim displays how one can be right in the detail, but still totally wrong. Having unique DNA would apply to the blastocyst. Or a toad.
Then again corporations are people, and their DNA is only a metaphor.
I guess you either have to be from Tennessee or actually go to the don’tsaystacey.com website to realize this is a specific jab at stacey campfield.

Masterful!
But the vasectomy ban is a really terrible idea.
Even as a joke.
On a happier note, it looks like the Va Gov has decided to back off from the forced mechanical rape proposal.

Cheers!

Yes of course. The government shouldn’t be nosing around in anyone’s reproductive choice. Which is kinda the point.
Tell you what JzB – the next time an abortion is performed and the DNA says the woman was carrying a toad I will forever acknowledge the right of women to have abortions no questions asked. I bet you could not find one scientist who would classify the DNA of an aborted person as anything other than human. I further bet you could not find a single scientest who would classify the DNA as being a match to that of the mother. Abortion is the killing of another human being that is distinct and different than the mother.
““Abortion is the killing of an unborn person”
Bullshit. “Persons” are those who are born. A fetus is not a person under the law.
What Southern Beale said, Jim, in spades.
Please. Since when do conservatives care about “persons” anyway? Give me a fucking break. They don’t want the government to pay to feed or house poor “persons” or help them access medical care. They don’t have a problem killing full-grown adult “persons” who have been found guilty of committing a crime in some kangaroo court with trumped up evidence. They have no problem torturing “persons” from other countries and religions.
They claim that taxpayer money sent to Planned Parenthood for non-abortion care indirectly subsidizes abortion, but they have no problem with us sending billions of dollars to Israel: a country where women can get free, taxpayer funded abortions, no questions asked — to the tune of 40,000 abortions a year. Don’t hear the right wingers raising a huge fuss about that, do you?
This is all a phony disguise for what they REALLY want which is to roll back the women’s rights movement and make women slaves again. Conservatives are constantly tilting at these cultural windmills, trying to unring bells that can’t possibly be unrung. Face it, old white men: you have to share your seat at the table with women, Jews, Muslims, gays, and brown people SUCK IT UP.
And shut the fuck already about your phony concern for “persons.” When conservatives show as much concern about persons who are already living and breathing as they do those blastocysts in the womb, then we can talk. In the meantime, it’s all just politics.
These discussions always raise associated questions to which I can’t seem to get a good response, particularly from those on the “Right”. Maybe this forum can help:
1. When did the functioning of my 2 daughters of child bearing age reproductive system become a matter for public discussion?
2. Where are the “Pro-Life” advocates when vigils are held to spare the lives of condemned people on the nations death rows?
3. Where are the “Pro-Life” advocates when our nations military is deployed to a geographic region inhabited by murderous hostiles?
4. Does anyone besides me find it somewhat sexually perverse that a bunch of people-especially men-spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about the sexual behavior of women unknown to them? (I suppose one could make the case that women naturally are interested in matters of female sexual reproduction although it still seems rather odd to me to imagine this conversation. “Hey Marge” “Yeah Alice” “What’s Betty doing with her Uterus this morning.?”)
Thank You for your time and attention.
Yes exactly. Earlier this week I posted a Williamson County (TN) Republican Party official’s quote that the school breakfast program was horrible because “it’s not the government’s job to feed people.” But it IS the government’s job to decide what’s going on in my uterus? Really?
“But it IS the government’s job to decide what’s going on in my uterus? Really?’
Well. duh, not if you get ovarian cancer for chrissakes! Then the invisible hand of the marketplace will put things right!
