  1. SB, that is great. I left my comments on that sight. I remember learning about Civil Rights marchers and voting rights workers who were tortured and some died so we could exercise our Right to Vote. And also I think about those courageous women in the 1920s who marched, were sent to jail, abused, and one died, so that WOMEN could gain OUR Right to Vote. WE MUST stand against those who want to prevent us…people of color, WOMEN and young women we encourage to VOTE this, their first time so that they can protect their precious right.

    Very good analysis, Beale.

I worked the polls in D5(Nashville) for each of Pam Murrays elections/recalls. ALL the voter fraud was committed by Americans. In her last two runs at office(against Hollin and Davis) she made a concerted effort to recruit the illegal immigrants at the various trailer parks on Dickerson and Trinity. Literally ZERO of the 100 or so that were registered showed up to vote.

The few dozen cases of voter fraud in each of those elections went unpunished. In one case, the recall, the fraud would have made a difference in outcome. The election was decided by two votes. Without poll workers stopping the most egregious of the attempts, the will of the voters would have been subverted.

Fraud was so much a part of the election process in D5, poll workers told many of us, “We aren’t here to make sure the votes are valid, we are just here to count them.”

So barring Voter ID laws, what do you suggest to combat the issue?

    • That’s funny because I’ve worked the polls and never seen anything like that, ever. And yours is the only story I’ve ever heard about rampant voter fraud in the Murray recall. If you are to believed voter fraud was so rampant it nearly threw the election, yet not one news story or blog post was written about it? Everyone kept their mouths shut, especially when the vote was so close they had to count provisional ballots to secure Hollin’s win? How is that possible?

I’d like to see some verification of this before we move forward with the conversation. Hell, I’ll ask Jamie Hollin myself.

The only case of improper voting that the pro-ID folks can point to happened in Shelby County, and it was a poll worker who voted fraudulently — meaning an ID wouldn’t have made a lick of difference.

  3. My jaw dropped regarding mexicans voting illegaly. In their everyday lives, they could only wish they were invisible.

Beale, please ask Jamie about the issue. He had several planning meetings about the issue and even had the election commission bring in new poll workers so that the “old guard” wouldn’t allow the fraudulent votes. One worker was fired(and then later rehired) over the issue.

I can’t remember all the issues but some of the more glaring were the dozen or so Pam registered to vote who resided in the parking lots near Titans stadium, the dozen or so that were registered to vote on Cowan st which has no private residences, and a Miss Ulysses: convicted felon, recently released from prison for stabbing someone, and a resident of New Orleans. She loudly bragged about her residence, her abilities with a knife, and she “proved” her residence with a NO id card. Heck, Pam’s house had 10 or 12 people registered to vote there.

Also, I misspoke about the lack of non citizen voters. Pam’s boyfriend, the good doctor, attempted to vote. He is a citizen of Ghana and was a resident of Detroit. Ask Sam McCullough about that one.

I could go on with some more detailed descriptions of Pam’s machinations but I would hate to get hit with another SLAPP.

The reason you didn’t hear about it in the press is because they were simply tired of the whole sordid mess. By the end, even Chas didn’t want to write about her or the fraud.

So again, I ask, how do you stop busing in voters, voting made-up and dead voters, and voting under a name other than your own? All this happened in Nashville. Now I know that Pam was a special case but without some sort of oversight, crooks like her could rot our Democracy.

    • …and even had the election commission bring in new poll workers so that the “old guard” wouldn’t allow the fraudulent votes. One worker was fired(and then later rehired) over the issue.

And right there you say a mouthful. Any voter fraud that does happen, such as what happened in Memphis, has always been shown to involve poll workers. So a Voter ID wouldn’t solve the problem.

The reason you didn’t hear about it in the press is because they were simply tired of the whole sordid mess.

That just reeks of bullshit. I don’t believe it. With all of the national attention — national embarrassment — caused by Tennessee’s Voter ID law, you would think someone, somewhere would have gotten over their “mess fatique” and mentioned this. I simply do not buy this. Until you provide some proof, the conversation is pointless because your premise is unfounded.

…how do you stop busing in voters, voting made-up and dead voters, and voting under a name other than your own?

Again, you haven’t proven these things actually happened, that this isn’t fearmongering by partisans trying to suppress the vote. Let’s get the facts straight first.

    • By the way, as someone who has worked with the homeless, I find your barb ” … who resided in the parking lots near Titans stadium …” extremely offensive. There is nothing in the law that says homeless people cannot vote. It’s not illegal to be homeless. But lacking a permanent address is certainly an impediment to getting that photo ID.

      Thanks for playing.

  5. Southern Beale:

I know just how people like Sarah feel.

They spend a great deal of time and energy constructing a web of conspiratorial whisperings that, to them, seems entirely plausible–and then someone whose brain actually, y’know, WORKS, says , “Umm, bullshit.”.

    Sarah:

Assertions, which is what you’re making, have no weight without evidence. All it will take for anyone–with a genuine intellect–to accept your word for the :”fraud” which you assert took place is for you to furnish some sort of PROOF that it actually happened.
