I Just Give Up

America has lost its mind. Or at least, the American discourse has. I simply cannot summon enough interest to weigh in on the latest stupid thing coming from wannabes and has-beens Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump and now Ben Shapiro. Seriously, am I the only one thinking this election has descended into some sort of Nadir of Stupid?

Here’s another one: CNN reported yesterday that single women vote “hormonally,” then determined the post didn’t meet its “editorial standards” and removed it. But not before Imani at Balloon Juice gave them the mocking they deserved over such ridiculous assertions as:

When women are ovulating, they “feel sexier,” and therefore lean more toward liberal attitudes on abortion and marriage equality. Married women have the same hormones firing, but tend to take the opposite viewpoint on these issues, she says.

Oh fer crying out loud. Writes Imani:

So if you see a slut in a short skirt voting for Obama on November 6, ask her if she’s married, offer her a tampon, and then tell her she really meant to vote for Romney but she just doesn’t know it because her hormones are fucking up her mind-head.

I guess I should feel somewhat comforted that CNN removed the post after remembering they have “standards,” but that doesn’t make up for the fact that it made it out there in the first place. And that goes for everything else, including ABC’s fawning over Donald Trump’s “yoooge!” bombshell which they later noted “failed to blow up.” Pardon me if I save my sad face for shit that really matters, ‘m’kay?

America, really, get another hobby. I just can’t deal with this constant stoking of the outrage machine anymore. Racist comment! Sexist comment! Racist comment! Sexist comment! Homophobic comment! Islamophobic comment! Jesus. Is it just me or is this all being coordinated in some arugula-filled room in Beverly Hills as advance marketing for the World Premiere on Nov. 6? Were the ratings for the debates that bad that they need to go into overdrive? Are people losing interest in the election or something? And if they are: can you blame us? Jeeez.

We’re getting near that time when I take my annual hiatus for NaNoWriMo, and not a moment too soon. I’m not going to go away entirely, I never do, but posting will be light as I try to focus on a new project, as well as some other assignments I’ve got lined up.

So you’ll be on your own for the month of November, for the most part. By all means, visit my friends on my blogroll, or maybe we should all just take a break together. I really do think our elections are just making everyone stupider.

Nielsens for the “Debate” were not as high as those for Game 7 of the NLCS. One reason for that is that a lot of USians are vapid, shallow and disengaged (except when it’s time to bitch). The other reason, for people like me, is that I wasn’t sure how the game would turn out, until the last out in the ninth inning–I knew where the debate would go about 20 years ago.

i love my political blogger fix. lol it’s a major recreational activity, but outside my house i’m in an environment where everyone assumes i’m a republican (like other nice people) and where i’m supposed to be upset a kenyan-born muslim communist might win. again. (just look it up on the internet, they say, and you’ll see it’s all true.) aiiiieeeee. i love the internet, coz it reminds me that there are other liberals out there.

    • Exactly….my relatives here in East TN (college educated, too) all watch FOX and believe this crap!!! I love it when I see an Obama sticker on a car…usually in downtown Knoxville. I just can’t believe men my husband knows say things like “I’m upset that Romney says we’re in the 47% and we’re retired business owners, army vets and home owners..but we’ll vote for the white guy.”
And having a political discussion with family is one big circle jerk in stupidity. (Pardon my French….)

Personally, I think the President should take Trump up on his offer, but name as his charity of choice the National Democratic Party. Trump would choke on his joke.

    • Trump is just BEGGING to be taken seriously. What a buffoon. I’ll give $1,000 to the charity of his choice if he shows me his real hairline by 5 pm Oct. 31.

      Just kidding.

I’m married now, but when I was single I wish someone had written “The thinking man’s guide to picking up chicks at voting booths”.

SoBe, take your writer’s conference. I promise we won’t run out of crazy before your return.

I will volunteer to entertain people at my house, polrant.blogspot.com, as long as Southern Beale will pay for the liquor and food! Oh, yeah, I’m gonna need a car, too, also.

OH, girl, we will NOT GIVE UP. The reason for all these suck ups now dissing the ‘female vote’ is this:
So many of the Right Wing nuts have thought up plans, worked them into bills, passed them or are ‘fixin’ to pass them that would take women’s rights, teens’ rights back to the 1920s when the male stupid fools could not bear that we had brains, strength of character and wanted, and got, our rights of self-determination. We let them know we would no longer sit down and knit and be VERY quiet. Then in the last 20 years we have proven that we will not be enslaved any more. And in this Election, we have right wing ‘faux religious creeps’ who demand that we follow their hate filled rules of how we live our lives, raise our families, become mothers OR NOT, have equal rights in pay, education, top level jobs. All this crap about women ‘changing our minds’ is just a smoke screen. Wait and see the results on Nov.7!

    • Here’s something that a democratically-controlled Capitol Hill has changed to bring American women at no cost as part of their health insurance for 2013:

      Well-woman visits

      Screening for gestational diabetes

      HPV testing

Sexually transmitted infections and HIV counseling

      FDA-approved contraceptive methods and counseling

      Breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling

Screening and counseling for interpersonal and domestic violence

That’s right. More protections kick in this coming new year. Hopefully there are more registered woman voters out there than men, although an awful lot of them are registered republican! And wannabe empty-nesters, don’t forget to put your college age children on your insurance plan!

FJ – when you say this is all provided at “no cost” what exactly do you mean? Do you think the doctors are not being paid for these services? Do you think insurance companies are paying for these expenses out of their profits? Do you think employers are simply going to accept additional insurance premiums without thought to wage increases for their employees? Who do you think will pay if your employer drops their insurance plan all together and you end up buying an individual insurance policy? Do you think these expenses are not factored into the premiums? Seems like alot of people may find out if the new insurance requirements stay – http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443437504577545770682810842.html
