Just Another Responsible Gun Owner!

Jon Andrew Meyer Jr. of Grants Pass, Ore., you’re our Second Amendment hero of the week!

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man told police he was using his assault rifle as a crutch to help him get up from a couch at a friend’s apartment when it fired a burst through the ceiling and killed a little girl upstairs, court records show.

A police affidavit said Jon Andrew Meyer Jr. told investigators the gun went off accidentally June 27at the Grants Pass apartment, the Grants Pass Daily Courier reported.

This man puts the “dumb” in freedom. But, friends, it gets better! It does!

Authorities say he was responsible for the reckless burst of rifle fire that killed 5-year-old Alysa Bobbitt of Shady Cove and wounded apartment resident Karen Hancock. The girl and Hancock were upstairs in the same apartment as Meyer.

The little girl and her mother were visiting friends there, but just what Meyer was doing in the apartment with the rifle was unclear. Court records say his fiancee had kicked him out of her place, getting a restraining order, and he listed his current residence as his sister’s home.

Though his fiancee, Victoria Kohout, told authorities that Meyer was a “big teddy bear,” her June 20 petition for the restraining order described him as an “unpredictable drug addict” who had threatened her with a gun, and threatened to burn down her house, slash her tires and break the windows on her car. The judge noted in the file that Meyer had four guns.

This is just so perfect. Another unpredictable, irresponsible gun loon on the loose in our communities, killing innocent people because he’s stupid, unpredictable and did I mention irresponsible?

I am so glad that our Republican senators have made it possible for such people to arm themselves to the teeth so they can kill innocent children. Thank you, NRA!

  1. This one really calls out for him to be charged with something. This man needs to see prison time and lose those guns.

  2. Ok, lets try this again now that wordpress remembers me. I recently read a very interesting article called something like “The body in room 348” http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2013/05/true-crime-elegante-hotel-texas-murder I won’t go into details but the mystery death turned out, in the end, to be an “accidental” drunken shooting. The interesting thing to me is that after they prove that the victim was shot through the wall of his hotel room by a drunken jerk in the room next door the State of Texas doesn’t really want to charge the shooter with anything. The widow and the detective are basically told “this stuff happens all the time in Texas” and they don’t even want to charge the shooter with negligence or manslaughter. They are forced to by very shame but the guy still gets half the regular sentence because, apparently, no one is responsible for any foresight when it comes to handling a deadly weapon.

The only thing preventing even more of these deaths in Texas is, probably, the rural quality of life and the lack of shared walls. When you bring a southern/texas sensibility to anyplace where people are living in apartment or townhouse complexes you are going to get more and more of these “accidental” and perfectly avoidable deaths. Only charging with strict liability will prevent them. Gun owners, at this point in time, have to be among some of the most childish, stupid, and irresponsible people on the face of the earth. And we are allowing the NRA and the gun corporations to arm them with deadly weapons rather boxing these assholes on the ear and sending them to remedial social skills school.

Unfortunately for Mr. Meyer, his 15 minutes of fame has been eclipsed by the acquittal of George Zimmerman, the NRA and ALEC’s new 2nd Amendment Poster Boy.
