Congratulations, PA Man Chad Olm! You Are Our 2nd Amendment Hero Du Jour

Another responsible gun owner Second Amendments a child because Freedom:

According to police records, this is what Chad Olm said happened:

Olm was in his bedroom with his son and his nephew, both age 11. The boys asked to see his guns so he opened his security safe.

Olm told police that he does not leave his guns loaded.

He opened the case and showed them his .357 Magnum revolver, which had been wrapped in a sleeve.

He handed it to his nephew and then to his son. They thought it was cool because it had a big scope on it. They wanted to pull the trigger and he let them, the police report said.

Next, he took out a .22 revolver. He removed the pin and cylinder and then put it back together again and handed it to his nephew and then to his son.

Then Olm showed the boys a 9 mm pistol that had been stored in a case, and let each boy hold it.

Last, he took out a Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun that has a laser sight. Olm said there was no magazine in it, but he did not work the action to check or clear it.

He was holding the pistol and showing the boys the laser on the ceiling and the wall.

Then, Olm pointed the laser at his nephew.

One of the boys (Olm could not recollect which one, according to court papers) said: “Look, you have a red dot on your forehead.”

His nephew reached out for the gun and Olm pulled the trigger.

The gun went off.

The bullet struck the child in the forehead, above an eye. He began bleeding and fell over.

The child died. Let me repeat:

I used to live in Pike County, Pennsyvlania. It was 1984 and I worked at an environmental education center in the Delaware Water Gap. It was the worst four months of my life. On the plus side, there are a lot of awesome music festivals in that part of the country. On the downside, I met more rednecks in Pennsylvania than I ever did in the many months I lived in Kentucky.

  1. The gun was COMPLETELY functional, his brain wasn’t.

I wonder if this is in the same part of PA where the dad accidentally killed his son when his 9mm somehow went off all by itself. In THAT case the DA decided that there was no purpose served in a criminal prosecution of the father, as he had suffered enough. The fact that dad was involved in a very ugly divorce/custody situation with his former wife and her LESBIAN partner*.

New slogan for the National Rearmament Association:

“”Gun don’t kill people, stupid people with gunz stupidentally kill people.”

    * teh google is great. ‘cept when they ain’t. In trying to find a link to the story about the the former wife and other kidkillin’dad I mentioned, I came across WAY too many stories about kids being killed by accident, killing other kids by accident and killing adults by accident.

  2. I’ve been seeing “Negligent Discharge” used to describe this behavior, apparently in an effort to improve on the previous “The gun accidently fired.” Sounds more like intercourse without a condom.

  3. Seeker

I live just south of Pennsylvania. There’s a saying that Pennsylvania is two northern cities (Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) on each side, and Kentucky in the middle. Many of the people in the northernmost counties of Maryland adore the Kentucky part and idolize it.
