Congratulations, Unidentified AK Man! You Are Our 2nd Amendment Hero Du Jour

An unnamed (why are they never named?) Alaska man accidentally shot himself and his 12-year-old daughter while removing his jacket. They were at the daughter’s physical therapy appointment, and lord knows, you can’t go to one of those without packing heat because Reasons:

FAIRBANKS — A 12-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the leg by her father on Monday afternoon while she was at a physical therapy appointment, Fairbanks police said.

Officer Doug Welborn said the father was carrying a .40-caliber pistol in a holster on his belt when he accompanied his daughter to her appointment at Adient Physical Therapy in the Medical Dental Arts building on Lathrop Street. At some point during the appointment he decided to remove his jacket and didn’t want the gun to be seen by other patients in the office. The man removed the gun from the holster and put it in his jacket pocket, at which point the trigger caught on the garment and a shot was fired.

The bullet entered and exited the man’s forearm, grazed his daughter’s right thigh and then lodged in her left thigh, Welborn said.

Dad is apparently a corrections officer. Daughter was getting physical therapy following a sprained knee. She had hoped to try out for the volleyball team but that’s kaput now, thanks to dad.

But don’t we all feel safer knowing that a yahoo who can’t even take his jacket off without accidentally shooting someone was there to protect us at the Medical Dental Arts building on Lathrop Street?

I am so sick and tired of Americans, who have nothing to fear at all, arming themselves against bears, terrorists, people of color, the government, or whatever else the hell it is they’re so afraid of. Maybe the daughter would have learned a valuable life lesson if her dad had shot himself dead: guns kill. And they kill innocent people waaayyy more than they kill bad people. Then maybe everyone in the community would have stopped for a second and asked, “Did he really need a loaded weapon at the PT facility?” Then maybe just one — that’s the highest number of NRA apologists who will ever change their minds in a given group — will finally see how ridiculous these idiots are and try to do something to stop it.
