An Attalla man reaching for his cellphone accidentally shot himself in the leg while driving on the Interstate in Gadsden Monday.
According to police reports, the incident happened at 1:20 p.m. in the westbound lane of the Interstate 759 bridge. Police responded to a call of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Upon arriving, officers found a 21-year-old Attalla man who witnesses said had been driving when he reached into his pocket for his cellphone. In doing so, he accidentally pulled the trigger of his gun, shooting himself in his left leg. A passenger in the car grabbed the steering wheel as the man passed out.
