It’s The Guns, People!

A parking dispute? Are you serious?

Police said a preliminary investigation showed the motive to be a parking dispute. They said Hicks, who has no criminal history in Chapel Hill, turned himself in and was cooperating.

A parking dispute?

Does this sound like a parking dispute?

“It was execution style, a bullet in every head,” Abu-Salha said. “This was not a dispute over a parking space; this was a hate crime. This man had picked on my daughter and her husband a couple of times before, and he talked with them with his gun in his belt. And they were uncomfortable with him, but they did not know he would go this far.”

Parking dispute or hate crime? Time will tell. What we do know is that Craig Hicks is an anti-religion gun nut:

“I guess after the horrible tragedy early this week in Arizona, all Glock pistols will officially be labeled ‘assault weapons,'” he wrote. “While I never cared for Glocks personally, it stinks that anyone would blame a firearm rather than the operator of such firearm for such a terrible act. I think I’ll start blaming McDonalds for my weight problem, Christianity for the Ku Klux Klan, and Islam for terrorism.”

Well, I do blame the firearm. Because the reality is, whether it was a parking dispute or hatred of Muslims, this interaction would not have ended in the deaths of three people if Craig Hicks hadn’t been armed and carrying. That’s just fact. Everyone is a responsible gun owner until they’re not. Everyone is a rational person trying to “protect themselves and their family” until they’re not. No one knows when some law-abiding citizen is going to lose their shit and let their emotions get the best of them. Being armed is the game-changer every damn time.

There’s no psychological test, no “pre-crime” muse, no surefire way to know who will flip out and who won’t. Because humans are fallible but guns are not.

That’s the fucking point, you morons. Get rid of the goddamn guns.

[UPDATE]: Hicks had 12 guns. One just wasn’t enough for some reason.

That person carries a gun because s/he intends to use it.

  2. Get rid of the guns, yes. I’ll salute that.

It is the fucking guns. People hate each other all over the world. People get pissed off all over the civilized world. They don’t shoot each other. Because they can’t get guns. The son of a dear friend would be dead if guns were legal in France — he tried to commit suicide twice, and was saved each time. That could not have happened in the US. He would have been able to go buy a gun and kill himself the first time. This country is whack.

  4. The folks over at Red State have a different diagnosis:
“In light of today’s horrible shootings in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, we need to seriously debate the violent nature that seems to be common in atheists and supporters of homosexual rights. ”
(Sorry I’ve got this funky browser at work that makes posting links, etc difficult. It’s easy to find though)
Guess I’ll shuttle back on down to my home state of Alabama, marry my boyfriend, buy an AR 15 and look for my next target.
    Have a nice day.

    • “…the violent nature that seems to be common in atheists and supporters of homosexual rights….” Yes that was predictable. Of course, he was also a big 2nd Amendment pro-gun guy but let’s not look at the OBVIOUS by any means!

I’ve read several accounts of this incident. In my opinion, it has more in common with road rage crimes than it does hate crime. Someone cuts you off, you get out of the car at the next stop and blow their brains out. In this case, someone parked in the space he thought they shouldn’t have. Same result. And, yes, if the imbecile who shot these three didn’t have easy access to guns, they wouldn’t be dead.

  6. I’m an atheist., I get pissed off on a regular basis. I don’t think I’ve RIILLY wanted to kill anyone for a long, long time. If I did want to kill someone I’m sure that I could manage to do so–but it would likely be a lot harder without a gun.

    Cowardly p,o.s. + gun = HERO!!
