A parking dispute? Are you serious?
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the motive to be a parking dispute. They said Hicks, who has no criminal history in Chapel Hill, turned himself in and was cooperating.
A parking dispute?
“It was execution style, a bullet in every head,” Abu-Salha said. “This was not a dispute over a parking space; this was a hate crime. This man had picked on my daughter and her husband a couple of times before, and he talked with them with his gun in his belt. And they were uncomfortable with him, but they did not know he would go this far.”
Parking dispute or hate crime? Time will tell. What we do know is that Craig Hicks is an anti-religion gun nut:
“I guess after the horrible tragedy early this week in Arizona, all Glock pistols will officially be labeled ‘assault weapons,'” he wrote. “While I never cared for Glocks personally, it stinks that anyone would blame a firearm rather than the operator of such firearm for such a terrible act. I think I’ll start blaming McDonalds for my weight problem, Christianity for the Ku Klux Klan, and Islam for terrorism.”
Well, I do blame the firearm. Because the reality is, whether it was a parking dispute or hatred of Muslims, this interaction would not have ended in the deaths of three people if Craig Hicks hadn’t been armed and carrying. That’s just fact. Everyone is a responsible gun owner until they’re not. Everyone is a rational person trying to “protect themselves and their family” until they’re not. No one knows when some law-abiding citizen is going to lose their shit and let their emotions get the best of them. Being armed is the game-changer every damn time.
There’s no psychological test, no “pre-crime” muse, no surefire way to know who will flip out and who won’t. Because humans are fallible but guns are not.
That’s the fucking point, you morons. Get rid of the goddamn guns.
[UPDATE]: Hicks had 12 guns. One just wasn’t enough for some reason.
