Here We Go Again

Another mass shooting, this time in San Bernardino. Everybody’s thoughts and prayers were so effective after the last mass shooting, that we decided to do it all again! /sarcasm

Meanwhile, on Twitter, we have this, just hours after news of the event started coming in:

I’m just curious how that’s supposed to work? Obama and George Soros stage a mass shooting, come and take everyone’s guns away, and then what? What happens next? You’re sent to work in the salt mines? (We need more salt?) I mean, what’s the end game here?

Wouldn’t it just be easier for them to do whatever the fuck it is they want to do and then send one of those drones our Pentagon owns down to bomb the crap out of whomever objects? Wouldn’t that be easier than “staging” a mass shooting and then trying to collect hundreds of millions of guns from people in every nook and cranny of Murrica?

I mean, I’m just trying to apply some common sense here, people. I know, futile exercise …

Kewl Republican Kids On Twitter

OK maybe not best ever, but I’m dying to know who’s behind this parody account. It seems to have sprung up out of nowhere.

KitchenAid Flunks Social Media

KitchenAid, purveyor of crappy kitchen appliances made in China (and a division of Whirlpool, last seen shipping American jobs to Mexico), made a huge social media boo-boo last night. One of their social media team members sent this Tweet under the company profile:

Ha ha that’s so funny, joking about the president’s dead grandmother! Hilarious! I almost forgot to laugh!

Needless to say, there’s probably a job opening in the social media division of KitchenAid today.

NBC Really Unclear On How The Internet Works

Guy Adams released from Twitter jail.

NBC filed a complaint with Twitter against British reporter Guy Adams over the following, prompting Twitter to suspend his account:

Well done, NBC. Now the ensuing controversy over Adams’ Twitter suspension has sent Gary Zenkel’s work e-mail address to thousands if not tens of thousands more people than Adams’ original Tweet. You guys really don’t know how the internet works, do you?

This just explains so much. This explains the utter failure of their broadcast, their “man on the street” coverage, or why it’s impossible to access anything on their livestreaming unless you first “login with your TV provider credentials.” In other words, you have to have cable or satellite service and you must give NBC your account number. Doesn’t capitalism RAWK!

This has been an utter fiasco. And honestly, I’m at the point where I say, fuck’em. Fuck the Olympics. I could give a crap. Trying to wrench every last ounce of ad revenue from an international sporting event that’s supposed to be all kumbaya has just ruined the experience. I could give a fuck.

NBC can DIAF for all I care.

Just … No

I’ve never heard of Celeb Boutique before but I promise you, I will never, ever shop there:

I’ve seen a lot of things about the Aurora shootings on Twitter today — perhaps the best was John Aravosis’ observation that,

When for political reasons we permit guns to be bought and sold at epidemic proportions in this country, this shooting is per se political.

That is exactly right. Cries not to politicize the tragedy are just another way of saying “shut up!” And yes, that means Rep. Louis Gohmert has as much a right to spout his latest idiocy as the gun control people have a right to spout theirs. The alternative, which we’ve seen play out a thousand times before, is everyone refusing to have the hard conversation — first out of resepect for the victims, then out of pure cowardice.

So yes, please politicize this. Because it is absolutely, 100% political. When the head of the NRA repeatedly gets up before the microphone and claims President Obama wants to take your guns so you better run out and stock up now, this issue is definitely political.

But one thing I simply cannot stand, and will not tolerate, is using a tragedy to sell cheap Kim Kardashian-inspired crap. That is beyond crass. It’s sickening.

McDonald’s Fails At Twitter

Corporate America hasn’t yet learned there’s an evil dark side to social media. You know, it was just a couple months ago that ConAgra got on the wrong side of some New York food bloggers, after trying to dupe them into hawking their crappy frozen food.

And now McDonald’s has learned the downside of Twitter, launching a failed hashtag that was supposed to be a place for people to share their fond memories of eating at McDonald’s. Hah. Three guesses what happened.

Dear marketers: do not try to control social media. You will fail. And when you fail, you will look like idiots to the very people you’re trying to suck up to.

You can read some of the most hilarious entries at the link.

No, “Anonymous,” this wasn’t cute, funny, subversive, satirical or even halfway cool. It was just plain irresponsible and stupid:

Fox News’s hacked Twitter feed declares Obama dead

Rogue 4 July tweets on TV news channel’s politics service go viral but Fox News is apparently back in control

Adam Gabbatt, Monday 4 July 2011 09.09 BST

Fox News has apparently fallen victim to hacking, with its politics Twitter feed repeatedly announcing President Barack Obama had been shot dead.

@foxnewspolitics began tweeting the information to its 33,000 followers at about 2am local time, with the posts rapidly being shared around the internet.

The rogue tweets appeared to begin after the account sent a message saying Fox had just “regained full access to our Twitter account”.

The following tweets all related to the supposed death of Obama, with some posts being very specific about the president’s injuries.

I don’t know what the hell these kids were thinking but it wasn’t funny, not by a long shot. I’ve about lost my patience with these idiots. First they go after how songwriters earn a living, and now this.

Grow the fuck up.

Some reports say it was Anonymous, others don’t identify the hacker at all. WHOMEVER did it, you’re an idiot.

The Script Kiddies have evidently claimed responsibility for the hack. Apparently they have “close ties” to Anonymous, two of the Script Kiddies are former Anonymous members according to my link.

Showing there’s humor even in this situation, the incident has prompted a new Twitter hashtag, #foxnewstwitterpassword. Funniest entries:

>Glenn Beck: Parody, Or Insane?

>Once again we must ask the question.

HuffPo’s Jason Linkins was tasked with determining whether Glenn Beck has a Twitter account and sadly, he has discovered that yes, Glenn Beck has a Twitter account.

It appears the man doesn’t have much to say:

I like fish
about 6 hours ago from web

And then:

I’ve been thinking about it more, so I wanted to clarify. I don’t LOVE fish, I just like it.
about 4 hours ago from web

Okie dokie. I happened to remember that Beck announced a comedy tour back in April, so I suspect his Tweets are a lame attempt at showcasing his comedic skills.

Well, let’s hope that’s what this is.

>Tweeting The Stimulus Bill

>Some interesting and amusing things on Twitter’s economic stimulus thread. Such as:

lmor: RT @JTTallman: There goes my generations financial security, don’t really know what the crowd is cheering about!!

Dude, you’re just now noticing the deficit? Who do you think paid for all the cheering for Bush’s tax cuts and the war in Iraq? Don’t you guys remember? Deficits don’t matter! “Reagan proved it.”

And this:

DDoutel: @Adrigonzo that’s why my family is converting all investments to gold coin.

That was a great idea … a few years ago. Remember: buy low, sell high. Gold is high now.

Look, you can whine and bitch and moan all you want, and I’m in there with you to a point. But facts are facts. Bill Clinton left us with a budget surplus, which George W. Bush squandered on his vanity war and tax cuts. We’re now in an economic mess as a result and unfortunately it looks like we’re going to have to dig ourselves into a deeper fiscal hole in order to dig our way out.

I don’t like it either but when I was complaining about the budget deficit back when unemployment was only 4% and our banks were still solvent, you were telling me that deficits don’t matter:

Which brings us to the economic level. The deficits that Bush ran up in the years in which the country was teetering on the verge of a serious recession had the beneficial effect of righting the economy. In that sense, deficits not only didn’t matter, but were a force for economic good.

Gosh, I forgot: deficits don’t matter when it’s Republicans doing the deficiting.

Look, no one–no one–is buying this sudden concern with fiscal responsibility from you guys. It’s been non-existent for the past eight years.

Deficits do matter. But at a certain point they matter less than other factors, like employment and productivity. Right now people need jobs. We’ll have to worry about the deficit mess later. And it’s all. your. fault.
